EDITORIAL, Negotiation, pp. 5-8
Negotiation is the name here given to different experiences, to highlight their formal and social character; negotiation as a political form is analysed as well as its specific instruments (for example equity commissions, positive action, quotas, interventions at a legislative level). It doesn't symbolically found the feminine subject, the article claims, even though it accords women visibility; it often ends up substituting a mediation with power to the search and practice of a gendered mediation.
The significance of these relations is investigated in order to understand if they have "broadened the concept and feeling of political responsibility towards oneself as female subject, hence as female political gender". Some women who, from various perspectives, relate to institutions and pursue women's interests, have been asked the questions the editorial poses.
SENTINELLI Patrizia, [Negotiation], pp. 9-11
The author - a general secretary of Rome CGIL teachers trade union - on considering her professional and political route, notices how, during the renewal process of the trade union, a number of executive women have sprung out at various levels; and nevertheless we cannot yet speak of a use based on belonging to the feminine political gender.
The union labour, even in a group marked by a feminine mass presence, suffers from cultural patterns and patterns of behaviour which refer to different values. In many occasion "I have - the author writes - the painful suspect of having paid for the "visibleness" the price of homologation".
POMERANZI Bianca Maria, [Negotiation], pp. 12-15
The author is a member of the commission for the Feminine Politics of the 'Lega delle Cooperative' and, starting from the statements made in the editorial, wants to revise her working life "under a light emphasising the motions of the feminist active participation along with the ones of the social function of her work".
She finds the issues of the editorial interesting because: "they represent a sort of check of the possibility of integrating the women political world not only by adding the activity of the feminist groups and of the women of the institutions, but also by connecting practices only apparently apart.
The author analizes how the objectives of the Commission she works in have changed, what the acquired advantages are, what the difficulties to found, not only among the women of the League, a relationship politically interesting breaking the strategy with which the male institution has always mined at the bottom the possibility of a sexual mediation.
ZAMARCHI Elisabetta, [Negotiation], pp. 16-18
The text springs from the joint work of the author and the group she is a member of called 'pedagogia della differenza sessuale', born in Verona Faculty of arts in 1987. Starting from the statement that the political action is a form of presence rather than a scope, the author tells of an experience of a seminar credited by the University and the provincial education office.
The seminar was centred on the thought of the sexual difference. It was made possible by a sort of negotiation with other women having a great useful power. Other forms of negotiation - the authors ends up - are weak as the real changes, the word and thought feminine autonomy fake place where women assert themselves thanks to their skill in talking and thinking.
BUFFO Gloria, [Negotiation], pp. 19-22
The author is in charge of the media section
of the Pci (Italian Communist Party) Women's Committee. She analyses here the
specific difficulties encountered in carrying on - within the RAI (Italian Broadcasting
Service), a political action committed to the creation of conditions which would
allow a woman's point of view to become visible in the media.
She is engaged in such work together with women
who are employed in this area, having to face a "male" organization
which produces ideas for female consumption. Briefly taking into account the
economic and political features of the RAI, she focuses on the subjective difficulties
encountered by the women employed there in their efforts to question the conception
of a "neutral", gender-free professionality and product.
CAPOMAZZA Tilde, [Negotiation], pp. 23-28
Tilde Capomazza, one of the founders of Dwf, looks at the story of her personal and political relationship with Daniela Colombo - founder of the feminist magazine "Effe", and presently president of AIDoS.
She reconsiders this experience, starting from their common work on a very successful TV program on feminist culture and politics, up to the present, which sees their involvement in a programme concerned with third world women. Such reconsideration takes form in the perspective suggested by the editorial piece which opens this issue. The author talks about her relationship with a woman who has chosen, as the form of political action, "bargaining" with the institutions.
COLOMBO Daniela, [Negotiation], pp. 29-33
Founder in 1973 of the feminist magazine "Effe", the author is at
present co-ordinator of AIDoS (Association of Italian Women for Development).
She tells us how she became interested in problems related to the Third World;
how this involvement influenced and was influenced by her life; and how she
happened to meet Tilde Capomazza, working togheter in two specific projects.
Two women similar in their general outlook and aims, but different for the forms
of political involvement each of them has chosen.
CHIAROMONTE Franca, The source of value, pp. 34-38
The author uses as a criterion of analysis the practice of disparity between women, as a possible source of value and strength of/for women. She argues that in itself the presence of women in the institutions is not negative, but it might become damaging if in order to guarantee this presence one "bargains" in the stead of other women, because this confirms weakness rather than giving visible existence to strength.
She then exemplifies this tenets, commenting upon them in order to and further investigate the issue, and concludes that the real problem at stake is making visible the political forms of action women have created.
BIGO Véronique, Imaginary fossils, pp. 39-46
In the (unsigned) note of presentation some information is given on the artist's life and works, as well as a few critical suggestions to understand the sense of her painting, here exemplified by three plates.
The formation of subjectivity, pp. 47-60
Some members of the group of women philosophers "Diotima" have held in 1987 a series of seminars about the formation of subjectivity, investigated in the perspective of a theory of sexual difference. The writings presented here - by Betty Zamarchi, Chiara Zamboni, Giannina Longobardi, Anna Maria Piussi, Anita Sanvitto - are a result of those seminars.
Each with a specific slant, the authors have discussed the following philosophical concepts: assuming gender as the horizon of a female self-representation on the part of women gives symbolic recognition to their being; the idea of female authority as an incarnation of the sacred; differences as they stem from individual life stories and the research of one's own subjectivity in the relation-ship with another woman (in particular, the problems arising in the psycho-analytical relationship).
Project-oriented reading, pp. 61-71
It is the report with which the 'gruppo divulgazione' of the Study Centre Donnawomanfemme has opened on 20th May 1989 a Seminar hold in Rome with the participation of a lot of women operating in the school, libraries, bookshops and political women groups.
In view of the publication of a series of texts spreading the ideas of feminism - issued by Utopia ed. - the authors have been asked to redefine the concept of "publishing" to come to the proposal of "lettura progettuale" as a true form of relation of political practice. "How promoting these renewal processes which, according to a general feminist statement, are feasible only in a conscious relation among women? How doing it by means of a book?" Just to start answering, the authors face the problem of communication, language and consider kinds of series.
