In the world of the father, 1994, n. 21, pp. 14-16

Sapegno, a lecturer and researcher in Italian literature at Rome University "La Sapienza", talks about the choices, the illusions and the challenges that she has faced as a woman who decided to go for an academic career, academia being a symbolical site linked with the paternal figure.

Her difficulties in relating to other women and in finding her own place in that area as well as in relation to women's studies have required a long process of self inquiry, in order to finally become able - in the last year or so - to address gender issues in a seminar with her students.

Political Responsibilities, 1997, n. 34-35, pp. 36-39

In the light of her political story - which she shares with a generation of Italian feminists - and of her present situation as a University lecturer, the author states her deep agreement with "the idea of narration as political responsibility"; an idea she has been trying to put into practise for a number of years, but always only in an individual and solitary dimension.

According to Sapegno, it would be necessary that "those groups of women who have somehow succeeded in getting together and still exist (more or less openly) in Italian universities, had been and were able to experiment freely". Not only different research itineraries, but especially different ways of transmitting a memory of their past and of creating a relationship between generations.

Pratica dell'inconscio, 1999, n. 44, pp. 81-84

Reconsidering at a long distance the meaning and the passions of a very strong political experience like the "pratica dell'inconscio", the author tries to focus the main problems and contradictions involved in that practice. She then points out the main issues raised then by the political use of psychoanalysis in the feminist movement and comments upon the relative failure in giving answers to some of the most important questions.

SAPEGNO Maria Serena - STORINI Monica - GIULIANI Fabrizia - AA.VV. del "Laboratorio", Laboratorio di Letture "Differences", 2002, n. 3-4, pp. 89-126

The experience of the "Laboratorio di letture: sguardi sulle differenze", at its third year, is here narrated by a large number of the regular participants. It is an activity open to all interested and held at "La Sapienza" in the Facoltà di Scienze Umanistiche.

It is based on the exchange of views on some major texts in international feminist thought: at each meeting three women of different generations are asked to report their opinion on one work and the debate follows. From the different voices in this paper it is possible to gather an impression of the variety of approach and the diverse conceptualization of this stimulating experience.
